FAQ & PC SPECS - LIFE IS STRANGE: TRUE COLORS

 FAQ

Will there be a physical (boxed) version of the Life is Strange: True Colors Ultimate Edition?

We are only producing a physical boxed version of the Life is Strange: True Colors Standard Edition.

The Deluxe Edition and Ultimate Edition are digital price promotion bundles, offering players a way to save on the Deluxe Upgrade and the Life is Strange Remastered Collection by purchasing them together.

Will there be a Collectors Edition with a bundled album for Life is Strange: True Colors?

We will not be producing an album-bundled edition of Life is Strange: True Colors.

However, the in-game music is both commercially available and on streaming, so you can listen now to the soundtrack in the format or streaming service of your choice.

When will Life is Strange: True Colors be available for pre-order and purchase on Nintendo Switch?
We will announce the new Nintendo Switch release date in due course, on our website, and on all of our social media channels.

I own the Life is Strange: True Colors Ultimate Edition. When will I gain access to the Life is Strange Remastered Collection?
The Life is Strange Remastered Collection will unlock for Life is Strange: True Colors Ultimate Edition owners on its standard release date. The Life is Strange: True Colors Ultimate Edition offers a great discount on buying the games individually, but does not unlock the Remastered Collection early.

Are the Deluxe and Ultimate editions of Life is Strange: True Colors time-limited? Will they be available for purchase after the release of the main game?

Yes, they will be available for purchase after the release of the main game.

Neither the Deluxe nor the Ultimate Editions are time-limited, and both will be available in perpetuity.

The Alex Outfit Pack is only available for free if you pre-order any of the editions ahead of release.

After the release of the main game, the Alex Outfit Pack will no longer be bundled with all editions – but it will be available to purchase separately.

Pre-ordering a Life is Strange game will always get you the best deal, but we don’t believe in gating pre-order content, should you come to the game after release.

What are the main benefits of purchasing each edition?

If you purchase the Deluxe Edition, you save money on purchasing the Deluxe Upgrade separately. The Deluxe Edition includes entitlement to Steph’s story – Life is Strange: Wavelengths, which releases on September 30, and to the Life is Strange Hero Outfit Pack, which offers four additional outfits, themed around Life is Strange heroes from previous games, and which is available Day One.

If you purchase the Ultimate Edition, you get all the content from the Standard and Deluxe Editions, plus entitlement to the two games in the Life is Strange: Remastered Collection, at a significant saving over buying all three games separately. The Life is Strange Remastered Collection games will also release after Life is Strange: True Colors, in early 2022.

While you can easily upgrade to the Deluxe Edition from the Standard by purchasing the Deluxe Upgrade, the Ultimate Edition is a price promotion bundle. If you purchase the Deluxe Edition and decide later that you would like to get the Life is Strange Remastered Collection, you will need to purchase the Life is Strange Remastered Collection at full price.

Why is the game not available in my country?

Our aim is to have every Life is Strange game available in as many countries as possible, but because some content isn’t permitted in some countries due to age rating restrictions, we’re unfortunately unable to make the games available everywhere.

When I click to open Life is Strange: True Colors on PC Steam, I’m prompted to choose between ‘Play Life is Strange: True Colors’ and ‘Play Life is Strange: True Colors (DirectX 12)’. What is the difference between these two versions of the game, and which should I go with?

Life is Strange: True Colors ships with both a DirectX 11 and DirectX 12 executable, with DirectX 11 being our recommended default.

The main difference is that DirectX 12 supports ray-tracing, so playing with the DirectX 12 version will allow you to turn ray-tracing on in the Settings menu.

As it is the more mature and stable version of the API, DirectX 11 is our current recommended default. DirectX 11 still supports the maximum quality settings: up to 4K, 30fps, full Cinematic quality; ray-tracing is the only difference.

Your saves are shared between the two executables, and you can choose between either version every time you boot the game fresh.

What are the benefits of ray-tracing mode, and on which platforms is it available?

Ray-tracing is available on PC Steam (DirectX 12 mode only), Xbox Series X, and PlayStation 5.

The effects of ray-tracing in Life is Strange: True Colors are primarily focused on true shadow quality.

Please note: ray-tracing will be enabled on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 in a Day 1 patch.

Are there any content warnings in Life is Strange: True Colors?

While we do not have content warnings in the game, you can find out more about our content by visiting those age rating boards which detail the rationale behind their choices.

The ESRB rating guidance is clear and detailed, while still being spoiler free.

What Accessibility options are offered in Life is Strange: True Colors?

In addition to being able to adjust the size and presentation of the subtitles, the game offers several Accessibility options, which you can access from the Accessibility menu in Settings.

You can adjust the font style, which affects all subtitles and game text.

You can increase the duration of the Choice Timer.

You can toggle on a prompt to skip certain gameplay sequences that may require taxing or dextrous controller movements.

The jog controls and power controls can be toggled between hold and tap.

Brightness and volume warnings can also be engaged, so that a warning will show before particularly bright or loud sequences in the gameplay.

Does the game have options for those with Color Vision Deficiency?

It was particularly important for a game called Life is Strange: True Colors, based around viewing and interacting with colored auras, to support players with Color Vision Deficiency.

To that end, the game includes adjustable filters, found in the Accessibility settings, for:

· Deuteranopia (to make greens more distinguishable from reds)

· Protanopia (to make reds more distinguishable from greens)

· Tritanopia (to make blues more distinguishable from yellows)

You can see examples of all four emotional auras as you make your Color Filter selection, and can adjust the strength of each filter to suit your preferences. The filters can also be adjusted from the Settings menu at any time during the game.

What is the Square Enix Crowd Choice Extension for Twitch?

Crowd Choice offers a great opportunity to replay narrative games in a fresh and unpredictable way.

The Crowd Choice overlay gets viewers more deeply involved in a game, allowing them to vote on nailbiting decisions and crucial choices, live, as the game is played.

If you’re a viewer, just install the Twitch extension on your Twitch account, and you’re ready to get involved making the decisions!

If you’re a streamer, once you’ve connected your game to a Square Enix Members account, you can toggle on Crowd Choice from inside the game and start streaming. You remain in control of how long the Crowd Choice display stays on screen, and you can choose between Full Democracy mode, where the wisdom of the crowd makes decisions for you, and Suggestion, where you can see the results of every poll – but the choice is up to you.

Where can I find the Square Enix Crowd Choice Extension for Twitch?
You can find the extension at this link: https://dashboard.twitch.tv/extensions/ppi0gsh1fr6f1negsjas7t7s5cqzgk-0.0.1

Is the Square Enix Crowd Choice Extension available on any other streaming platforms?
Not at this time.

Why is the Square Enix Crowd Choice Extension not available for YouTube?
While the Square Enix Crowd Choice extension is brand new, and launching alongside Life is Strange: True Colors, it has been designed to be available to developers to integrate with other Square Enix titles in the future. As a new venture, the development team prioritised one platform for launch. Although we cannot promise a YouTube version in the near future, the team will be playing close attention to how the extension works in the wild, and to requests from streamers and viewers, in order to iterate new versions of this and other streaming extensions.
